- In the scene in which Jack chops down the door (the Here's Johnny! scene), at first the set designers used a prop door made of very thin wood, out of fear that Jack Nicholson would be unable to chop the door down properly. However, Nicholson's technique with the axe was so good that the prop doors shattered into a million pieces when he hit them, so a real, thickly constructed door was substituted.
- Nicholson ad-libbed the line Here's Johnny! in THE SHINING (1980).
- The movie's origin was in Ojai, California, where the foursome he and Bob Rafelson spent a weekend in a resort motel verbally tossing story ideas into a tape recorder. This became the script for HEAD (1968).
- The name of the boat Jack Nicholson's character fishes in THE PLEDGE from is called Sweet Lorraine. Lorraine is the name of both Nicholson's sister and his daughter (with Rebecca Brousard).
- The script called for Murphy to leap on a guard and kiss him when first arriving at the hospital. During filming, director Milos Forman decided that the guard's reaction wasn't strong enough and told Nicholson to jump on the other guard instead. This surprised the actor playing the second guard greatly, and in some versions he can be seen punching Nicholson (ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST).
- There is a rumour that Nicholson underwent ECT therapy during the scene where his character does (ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (1975)).
- Writer Robert Towne, producer Robert Evans (I) and director 'Nicholson, Jack' founded the production company T.E.N. in 1985 just to produce THE TWO JAKES (1990). When legal and financial problems occurred Nicholson finished the project alone.
- Grew up thinking that his gradmother was his mother and his mother was his sister because she was so young when he was born. He found out the truth when a writer at TV GUIDE was researching for an interview with Jack.
- He is not sure that Caleb is his son, but to avoid lawsuites which he already has, he supports both Caleb and Susan by giving them a house. He doesn't even see them and has rarely spoke to Caleb.
- When Jack was born his mother June wanted to continue acting so his grandmother Ethel May posed as his mother while June posed as his sister. Jack didn't find out the truth until both his real mother and grandmother had both passed away.
