JAMES WOODS NEWS AND TRIVIA
  • He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (15 October 1998)
  • He is alleged to have an IQ of 180. He scored a perfect 800 on his verbal SATs and a 779 on the math section.
  • He plays a character who works for Richard Nixon in the movie NIXON and played one of a band of man who wore Nixon masks when they robbed a police depository in BEST SELLER.
  • He appeared in the music video and sang in the choir on the song Voices That Care. He fired his agent for not telling him of Tarantino's offer to star as Mr.Orange/Freddie in RESERVOIR DOGS (1992)
  • He felt victimized by Sean Young, who allegedly stalked and harrassed him after their dating relationship ended.
  • He is a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity.
  • He was engaged to actress Missy Crider in 1997; they met when she played his daughter in the TV movie JANE'S HOUSE.
  • While on a commercial flight from Boston to LA in August, he noticed a group of men acting suspiciously on the plane and informed a flight attendant that he felt the men were planning to hijack the plane. He has thus been in several interviews with FBI agents since the September 11 attacks. (2001)
  • Was the initial casting choice as Donald Kimball in AMERICAN PSYCHO (2000)
  • Hades was scripted as a slow, menacing character until he auditioned for the role in HERCULES (1997) and impressed the casting directors with his rapid-fire style. The script was rewritten, but Woods ad-libbed many lines.
  • Replaced Marlon Brando to play Father McFeely in the THE EXORCIST (1973) spoof at the beginning of the SCARY MOVIE 2 (2001)
  • Tarantino wanted Woods to play a role in RESERVOIR DOGS (1992), and made him five different cash offers. Woods' agent refused the offers without ever mentioning it to Woods as the sums offered were well below what Woods would usually receive. When Tarantino and Woods later met for the first time, Woods learned of the offer and was annoyed enough to get a new agent. Tarantino avoided telling Woods which role he was offered because the actor who played the role was magnificent anyway. It is widely accepted that the role that Tarantino was referring to was Mr. Orange.
  • The chest-slit sequences in VIDEODROME (1983) had him built into a couch with the chest-slit apparatus glued onto him. Woods swore he would never work with anything that had to be glued onto him ever again! During filming the sequences with the flesh-gun (which fired bursts of cold, vaporous gas), Woods played a prank on director David Cronenberg by smearing his (real) hand with blue paint and pretending he had frostbite.
  • THE WAY WE WERE (1973) was his first film (although not the first to be released).
  • While shooting the scene in NIXON (1995) where Nixon and Jones confront each other, the lights were aimed straight down at coffee tables in front of the fur-upholstered couch. The lights were so powerful that the rug beneath one of the tables started smoking. In the middle of the first take, an extra noticed the increasing amount of smoke, and muttered fire quietly during a pause between lines of dialog. 'Woods, James' heard this and stopped the scene before the rug caught fire.
  • Didn't have relationship with Nicolette

Quotes
  • About bad guys: "You know, I don't think there are any more bad guys - I'm tempted to make so many jokes about this issue. You know, these days you don't know how to define the bad guy. I mean, you look at the people who get acquitted these days and people who don't get indicted at all. I don't know how you can accuse anybody of being a bad guy."
  • About his image in the press: "They always want me to play these edgy, intense characters. I know it sounds terrible, but it's the thing that I'm least good at doing."
