- Was the only actor (so far) to have three consecutive shows on television, each of which ran for five years or more: BONANZA (1959-1973), LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE (1974-1983), and HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN (1984-1989).
- His birthplace Forest Hills, is a neighborhood area in Queens, New York.
- Won a javelin throwing scholarship to the University of Southern California, but eventually lost his scholarship due to a torn ligament, which also ended his athletic career.
- In the THE LAST FAREWELL of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE (1974), they really did blow up the town. Producer/star Landon didn't want the bulldozers to crush the buildings. So he wrote a story which gave the inhabitants the chance to destroy their town themselves.
- Didn't consider Jason Smith as a Landon.
- Was nominated for Golden Globe for Best TV Actor - Drama in 1979 for LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE.
Quotes- "Somebody ought to tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit every minute of every day. Do it, I say, whatever you want to do, do it now."

- Western Writers of America: Spur Award - Best TV Script, Little House on the Prairie (1981)
