  • Moore is expected to leave the hospital on Friday after collapsing on stage during a Broadway performance on Wednesday - The actor was performing as the mystery guest star in Wednesday's matinee performance of 'The Play What I Wrote,' when he fainted on stage. (May 9, 2003)
  • Roger and a companion, Christina Tholstrup, escaped injury when another vehicle collided with the actor's car. Airbags were attributed to preventing injury. (13 January 2001)
  • Awarded CBE (Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire) in 1999.
  • Despite playing James Bond in six BOND films, he never ordered a vodka martini shaken not stirred.
  • During the early stages of his career Roger collected towels from the hotels he stayed in. However, he stopped when a British newspaper printed a story entitled 'Roger Moore is a towel thief'. He revealed on 'So Graham Norton' that he still has the collection in his Swiss home.
  • He was a good friend of Audrey Hepburn, and succeeded her as goodwill ambassador for the UNICEF.
  • In 1954, Roger was offered contracts with the Royal Shakespeare Company or MGM. Noel Coward advised him to go for the money.
  • Moore's contract for the 007 films provided him with an unlimited supply of Montecristo cigars during filming. The bill for this typically ran to thousands of pounds and was met by the producers.
  • Received an honourary doctorate from Ryerson Polytechnic University in 1999.
  • Scheduled to make his musical theatre debut as Sir George in ASPECTS OF LOVE in 1990. He left the production days before his escape clause expired due to his own concerns over his singing ability. He was replaced by Kevin Colson.
  • Whilst doing National Service, Moore served with Military Intelligence.
  • He directed nine episodes of THE SAINT (1962), including SOPHIA (1964), THE MIRACLE TEA PARTY (1964), THE CONTRACT (1965), THE MAN WHO COULD NOT DIE (1965), THE OLD TREASURE STORY (1965), ESCAPE ROUTE (1966), INVITATION TO DANGER (1968), THE HOUSE ON DRAGON'S ROCK (1968), and WHERE THE MONEY IS (1968).
  • A VIEW TO A KILL (1985) was his final appearance as 007.
  • All of his contracts include an unlimited supply of hand-rolled Monte Cristo cigars (in one 007 movie the final bill comes to 3176.50 pounds).
  • He becomes the first actor to perform the gun-barrel sequence without a hat in LIVE AND LET DIE.
  • He had been in the running to play Bond as early as 1962, but was considered too young looking, even though he was older than Sean Connery.
  • He should not have been available for the part since at the time he was committed to THE PERSUADERS! (1971), but when the show flopped in the U.S. he was prematurely released from his contract. Moore was author Ian Fleming's original choice for Bond, but he was committed to THE SAINT (1962) when the earlier films were in production.
  • LIVE AND LET DIE (1973) was his first appearance as James Bond.
  • THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977) marks the debut of a more modern version of the gun-barrel opening sequence. It features a closer shot of Roger Moore against a more colored background.
  • The voice of the radio announcer at the end of THE SAINT (1997) is none other than Roger Moore, who played the Saint on British television in the 1960s before going on to greater fame as James Bond in the 1970s.
  • In 1981 he announced that he was reluctant to play 007 again, but was lured back at the last moment for an undisclosed sum. To avoid any continuity problems associated with a new actor playing Bond, the scriptwriters of FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (1981)included a scene in which 007 visits the grave of his murdered wife.
  • Was nominated Saturn Award for Best Actor - Science Fiction in 1970 for THE SPy WHO LOVED ME.

Quotes
  • To me, the Bond situations are so ridiculous, so outrageous. I mean, this man is supposed to be a spy and yet, everybody knows he's a spy. Every bartender in the world offers him martinis that are shaken, not stirred. What kind of serious spy is recognized everywhere he goes? It's outrageous. So you have to treat the humor outrageously as well. My personality is entirely different than previous Bonds. I'm not that cold-blooded killer type. Which is why I play it mostly for laughs.
  • "Among the ones I did, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME was the one I enjoyed best. I think it was the one where all elements worked. It had the right balance of locations and humour. I also enjoyed working with Lewis Gilbert tremendously."
  • Over the last year [1998] I've rather enjoyed making documentaries [than movies] for a company called Associated Television , run by a man called David Mackenzie. And we shot a couple in Russia , one in Moscow and one in St. Petersburg ... they are called "The KGB Files".
